Why different Candela wavelengths treat different conditions — Dr. Kang's clinical explanation.
Different skin conditions require different laser wavelengths because different chromophores (light-absorbing targets) in skin absorb different wavelengths. Using the wrong wavelength produces either no therapeutic effect or damage to untargeted tissue.
755nm is strongly absorbed by melanin — making it highly effective for superficial pigmentation and hair removal in lighter skin tones. PicoSure Pro and GentleMax Pro Plus both use this wavelength.
1064nm penetrates deeper and is less strongly absorbed by epidermal melanin — making it safer for darker skin tones and effective for deeper pigmentation, vascular lesions, and hair removal in Asian skin. PicoWay's 1064nm mode and GentleMax Pro Plus 1064nm both use this.
The pulsed dye laser (585–595nm) is absorbed specifically by oxyhaemoglobin in blood vessels — making it the most targeted treatment for rosacea, telangiectasia, and vascular lesions. VBeam Perfecta and VBeam Prima use this wavelength.
